• Adult Basic Education (ABE)

    Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes offer an opportunity to build reading, writing and math skills whether you have a secondary credential or not. Many of our ABE students go on to earn a Groves Adult High School Diploma or GED® credential.
     
    Our program:
    • Instruction in the basic skills of reading, writing, and mathematics for individuals who are preparing to enter the labor market, upgrade their present level of employment, obtain a GED® or high school diploma, and/or enroll in postsecondary education or training.     • Students can learn at their own pace.
    • Each student is provided with a learning plan that is supported by the instructional assistance and guidance of the ABE teacher.
    • The curriculum follows the standards and benchmarks set by the Delaware Department of Education.
    • Students may earn Certificates of Attainment (COA) for successful completion of these state benchmarks.
    • The program is free to students who are 16 years of age or older and who have officially withdrawn from high school.
    • This is an open entry/open exit program.

  • GED The GED® 

    The revised 2014 GED® is a four-subject computerized test that is the only nationally recognized high school equivalency test. Students are tested in Science, Social Studies, Reasoning through Language Arts, and Mathematics Reasoning.  Once all tests have been completed with passing scores the state will issue you a GED® credential and you will receive a transcript to use for admission into college, training programs or job advancement.  

    Our GED® program:

    FULL SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE 

    Amerihealth Caritas Health Insurance (Mission GED)

    To enroll in Mission GED, you must:

    • Be a current member of AmeriHealth Caritas Delaware.
    • Be 18 years old or older.
    • Not have a high school diploma or equivalent.
    • Not be currently enrolled in high school or college.

    Mission GED can help you with:

    • Testing expenses.* Testing fees can be pricey. But when you enroll in Mission GED, AmeriHealth Caritas Delaware will provide you with testing vouchers so you can take your pre-GED test and GED test at no cost to you!
    • Coaching. Once you enroll in GED classes, a program coach will work with you every step of the way. Your GED coach will stay in touch to support and encourage you along your GED journey.

    * AmeriHealth Caritas Delaware will only cover costs for your pre-GED and GED test. All other costs, such as GED program fees, are the member’s responsibility.

    Take your GED test at no cost to you!

    Did you know that someone with a high school diploma or GED can earn up to $9,000 more a year? Getting your GED can also lead to more job choices and a chance to enter college. Highmark Health Options would like to help you get your GED at no cost to you!

    In order to qualify for this benefit, you must:

    • Be Delaware resident
    • Be a current member of Highmark Health Options
    • Be 18 years of age or older
    • Not enrolled in high school or any other school program

    In order to obtain one of these schlorships simply enroll and particpate in coursework in one of your ABE programs at any of our five sites: Glasgow, Hudson State Service Center, New Castle County Learning Center (NCCLC), Wilmington Library, and Claymont Community Center (CCC).
