Welcome to the Albert H. Jones Elementary School WebsiteWhere we show how proud we are to be….“Woodchucks”!!!!
At Albert H. Jones, home of the Woodchucks, we nurture as we educate all children by focusing on their individual needs and preparing them to be productive citizens in the 21st century. Our commitment is to provide rigorous Common Core aligned instruction that will motivate them to become scholars in a society that revolves around Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Our major school-wide STEM focus is environmental education. Through a partnership with Northbay Adventures, students participate in observations and hands-on lesson concepts to help students understand how humans impact habitats, how soil is made, how erosion impacts the Chesapeake Bay, how pollution reach local tributaries, and much more. Students also observe and maintain the school's Raised Pollinator & Native Plant flower beds.We implement a framework for Reading that includes systematic and explicit instruction in five critical areas essential to reading success: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension and fluency. Instructional strategies implemented in the classroom are research based and support the response to intervention initiative. Using Journeys and other resources, we begin with this solid foundation and extend the instruction to reach the rigor outlined in the Common Core State Standards. Bridges in Mathematics is our new math curriculum. It is also aligned with the Common Core. Instructional strategies include using multiple methods for problem solving, using manipulative, and communicating mathematically. Science kits, which are hands on investigative science units, are implemented in every grade level. As a STEM school (science, technology, engineering, and math), our goal is to encourage and inspire students to pursue careers in a STEM related field.
I am proud to be a Woodchuck and you will be too!!!
