Welcome Letter from Mr. Dombchik
Welcome to the 2024-2025 Christiana Middle School Honors Academy 8th grade band! My goal this year is to give each and every student a positive musical experience, as well as, experiences I hope they can use later in life. We will take the musical concepts taught by Mrs. Sawall in 7th grade and apply them to different warm-ups and musical literature. Students will start with the "Essential Elements-Book 1" but they may eventually order "Essential Elements Book 2". The level of music I choose will hopefully challenge the members of the MSHA band to become better players. Much of what we do in 8th grade band is learning to work together, learning about time management and the value of teamwork. These concepts are going to be stressed throughout the entire year.
This year, the MSHA 8th grade students will perform at the high school concerts since the MSHA concerts have become too large. Also, MSHA 8th grade students will learn "stands" music in class and play at one CHS home game with the CHS Viking Marching Band (Sat., November, 9th. Report time at 10:00, 11:00 a.m. game.
I hope many of the 8th parents will consider joining our music booster association. It is an active support group for the band, choir and string organizations. They have been a big part of the success of the Christiana High School music department and hope to support the MSHA music students as well. Please join and become an active part of the music department and your student’s musical education. Please email Monika Goff (Music Booster President) at CHSVikingsMusicBoosters@gmail.com if interested.
Any band information such as schedules, changes, booster officers, can be obtained on our band page on the Christiana Website. www.christianahs.org/band
Band information will be updated throughout the school year. If you have any questions, please contact me at jeffrey.dombchik@christina.k12.de.us
I am looking forward to meeting all of you and having a successful year. We will work together to establish a musical environment in which students and parents can be proud.
Thank you.

Dress for the Pep Band Performance
Sat., Nov. 9th, 11:00 a.m., Report time, 10:00 a.m. All MSHA students will be performing at the final home game of the year.
I would like the students to wear some kind of Christiana wear. MSHA sweatshirt, Christiana music department sweatshirt, Christiana sports jersey, MSHA t-shirt, etc. If you do not have anything listed, you can wear a shirt that is either red, royal blue or silver/gray. Those are the school colors. Being a football game, we want the shirts to be school spirited but not formal. Students will be permitted to wear their own jackets if it is a cold day.
Dress for Concert Band Performances
Looking ahead to the concerts, we are going to ask the students to wear their own black on the bottom and white on the top. This is the same dress as last year. Students may wear a black skirt but we ask it is knee length when sitting. We would like black pants(I would prefer not to have jeans but will accept them if they are dark), black socks and black shoes. All students may wear a white button-down shirt, a white polo-style shirt or a blouse on top. Students should not wear a white t-shirt as their concert dress shirt.
Remind 101 app
This app has really improved communication with the students and parents in the high school marching band. I have created a MSHA 8th Grade Band Text Message. It will allow me to send out short blasts, but it does not allow my personal information to be shared. Parents can send me texts as well.
