Remote Learning FAQs

  • What do we do for virtual schooling on Monday?

All students will login to Schoology and check each class for instructions.

What learning platforms will my child be using and how do I access them?

Week #1 will begin with a focus on parent support and opportunities to practice. Our goal is to ensure students and parents become familiar with the learning platforms and tools. Our main platforms for engagement are Schoology (online learning application) and Zoom (interactive meeting tool), but others will be introduced over time. Teachers will communicate with students and families, describing how to access these platforms. Structured lessons will start on/around 9:00 a.m. in most cases. However, if that time does not work, there is flexibility to independently access the assignments throughout the day.

How will my child share completed homework and assignments?

Student work will be in the form of an activity (practice and discussion) or assignment for teacher feedback. This will be followed by a summative assignment to demonstrate understanding. Assignments will be submitted on Schoology or another designated platform that will be communicated in advance by your student’s teacher.

How can I see and track my student’s assignments?

Assignments will be posted on the Home Access Center and will include due dates. Students are expected to submit assignments on time for credit and feedback. Assignments will not be graded at this time. Although grades are not the current accountability measure, receipt of work and attendance still are.

Students cannot receive credit for the assignment, their attendance, or the course without submitting the assigned work.

You can expect a call from your child’s teacher if they fall behind or fail to submit work. As always, parents can use Home Access Center (HAC) to see that assignments have been received.

What if we don’t have a computer?

Families who let us know that access was an issue will be able to use Weekly Learning Packets. The packets do not require electronic devices or internet. Learning Packets will be available for pickup where Grab-N-Go Meals are being provided.

What if we experience difficulty getting on to the learning platform the teacher is using, opening up a link or video, or have general technology problems at home?

If a student or parent is having an issue with technology, we ask you to contact your child’s teacher.

If your teacher cannot resolve the issue, s/he will contact our Building Tech Coordinators / Administrators. If they are unable to solve the problem, it will be referred to our District-level Tech Support. The goal is to use our normal processes, which provide a structured way for solve problems effectively and efficiently.

What happens if a student exhibits inappropriate behavior on a learning platform, discussion board or other remote learning activity?

The District’s Student Manual and Acceptable Use policies will be in full effect. Staff will be assigned to monitor student interactions and behaviors to support our learning community – students, staff and parents.

How can I get my child ready for Monday, April 6 when remote learning begins?

Take some time to do the following:

    • If you have more than one child/ student, talk about what devices are in the home, coordinate computer time, and determine a schedule.
    • Discuss the schedule that the CSD / Glasgow suggests.
    • Decide what schedule works best for your situation and the best time you are able to assist when your child has questions.
    • Make sure your student understands that without completing the work, they cannot receive credit for the course. Even though assignments aren’t graded (at this time), students are accountable for doing all of them.
    • Log-in to Schoology, or any other platform that your teacher may be using.
    • Charge you device, if you have access to one.

When/how will I be able to reach my child’s teacher?

One of the components of your teacher’s day will be office hours. Your student’s teacher will get in contact with you to discuss scheduled office hours and the best way to reach him/her (i.e. phone number, email, etc.).

Why does a blocked number show when I receive a call from my child’s teacher?

Since teachers do not have access to their classrooms and must use personal phones, it’s recommended that they use a private number when calling families.

When will my child's school day begin?

We understand the various responsibilities of a family, and therefore we have a suggested schedule. One of the benefits of Remote Learning is flexibility for parents and students.

What will my student’s day look like?  How many online hours each day?

The student day could vary day by day. Generally speaking, students will spend their time in a few different “buckets”. They are:

    • Online time: Contact with teachers in a live or recorded format
    • Feedback time: Students will receive feedback from teachers regarding their participation and assignments
    • Rest time: Scheduled time to eat, rest, and play
    • Work time: Completion of assigned tasks

What will my child’s full schedule look like?

Know that it will be flexible but also structured like a school day that you can choose to follow or complete the required work on your own.
